Classical Ministries Committee

Overview

The Classical Ministries Committee is accountable to Classis Alberta North. This committee, along with its participating members, helps give expression to the purpose statement adopted by Classis October 2003.

Purpose

  1. To encourage member congregations to faithful and creative ministry;
  2. To jointly undertake ministries of common interest; and
  3. To participate in denominational ministries and governance.
  4. To hold member congregations mutually accountable for their work of ministry; and to provide appropriate resources for same

Mandate

  1. Hear timely reports on current activities from each ministry’s representative; provide comment, support, encouragement
  2. Provide useful assistance to ministries when they are experiencing problems
  3. Provide oversight of ministries concerning the implementation of Classis’ decisions affecting the ministries
  4. Invite and receive, from the ministries, such new proposals as could lead to their further enhancement and scope; in consultation with the classical treasurer, to establish and review approximate cost of such new plans
  5. Coordinate ministries’ future plans and ensure that such plans are supported by a strategic three-year plan
  6. Seek consultation with, and advice from, classical and regional representatives on denominational boards, in order to be informed about changes in direction, significant trends or possible new opportunities for service
  7. Review each ministry’s mandate on a three-year basis
  8. Advise Classis’ nominating committee when persons with particular gifts, skills or experience are required for the optimum functioning of a ministry
  9. Exercise responsibility for Classis’ website

Membership

  1. The current members of the Classical Interim Committee, the Prayer Coordinator of Classis and one representative of each ministry of Classis; these ministries currently include.

    • Classical Abuse Response Team (CART)
    • Classical Home Missions Committee
    • Cuba Connection Committee
    • Student Fund Committee
    • Youth Ministry Committee
    • NADC

Meetings

When called by the chair, up to six times a year.

Reporting

Each ministry, being accountable to Classis, will report to Classis through its designated reporter.
