Classical Interim Committee
Mandate
- Do all things entrusted to it by Classis and all things that require the
action of Classis prior to its next session.
- Carry out, or arrange to be carried out, Classis assignments for which no
agent was designated at the time of the classis meeting.
Membership
Four members, plus the Stated Clerk.
Meetings
As needed.
Specific Tasks
- Set dates for classis meetings.
- Appoint officers and host church.
- Appoint Counselors, upon request of a church without a minister. They shall
assist that church as prescribed by the Church Order and by relevant synodical
decisions and shall submit a written report to Classis at the completion of their
tasks.
- Handle credentials of ministers leaving or entering Classis.
- Make arrangements for colloquium docium and other classical examinations of
candidates for the ministry, evangelists, and applicants for licensure to exhort.
- Appoint a credentials advisory committee, a finance advisory committee, and a
classis expense advisory committee.
- Appoint other ad hoc advisory or study committees to serve Classis as the need for
these arises.
- Call a special meeting of Classis when five churches request it.
- Decide whether to call a special meeting of Classis when at least three churches request it.
- Arrange classical preaching assignments in response to requests by vacant churches and
churches whose minister is incapacitated.
- Requests should be made to the Classical Interim Committee, at least three weeks
before Classis meets.
- The number of Classical appointments ordinarily shall be two per month.
- No church shall receive classical assignments during the months of July and August
- Councils of vacant churches shall reimburse the ministers filling classical
appointments for traveling expenses.
- Exceptions to this rule may be decided by Classis from time to time.
- Classical appointments shall be distributed equally among the ministers of Classis,
as much as possible.
- Submit a report of its actions to Classis for approval al its next session
